This project originated from my request to conduct my semester internship on Governors Island, where I was honored to receive open access as an artist in residence. At the time, I was unaware of the profound significance of spending time on the island. The chief warrant officer overseeing my visits allowed me unrestricted movement, which facilitated genuine connections with the community. The active-duty Coast Guard personnel, along with their spouses and children, welcomed me with warmth and openness, creating a supportive environment. More than twenty-eight years later, I reflect on these images and recognize their importance in documenting a valuable piece of history for future generations.
To convey the energy of my experience, I present an entire unedited roll of film taken one day during the school's lunch hour at PS 26, showcasing candid interactions within the cafeteria.Student's Lunch Time, Cafeteria at PS 26
